Clean sleeping – What is this trend and how to adopt it?

By  |

According to Gwyneth Paltrow, clean sleeping would be the beauty trend of 2017. But then, what is exactly this fashion to sleep well and how to adopt it?

In her book “Goop Clean Beauty”, released in late December 2016, Gwyneth Paltrow boasts about the benefits of clean sleeping: making sleep a top priority and sleeping at least 7 to 8 hours in a row in the best way possible and this for each night. Sleep well must pass in front of food, sport, and beauty products. Designing this practice as THE Health Trend of 2017. The Iron Man actress believes that clean sleeping plays a vital role in appetite and energy level.

Clean-sleeping in practice

Clean sleeping is a ritual to be always performed.

Go to bed every night at the same time

On that score, the Hollywood star did not invent anything. All the experts will tell you that going to bed every night at the same time makes it possible to fall asleep more easily and not to dismantle his internal clock. For his part, Gwyneth Paltrow advises going to bed at least four times a week at 22:30.

Sleep at least 8 hours per night

According to Gwyneth Paltrow, it is important to sleep at least 8 hours a night, or even 9 or 10 hours if possible. An idea that gives desire but not frankly easy to hold on a daily basis. Sleeping 7 to 8 hours each night is nevertheless highly advised in general.

Be careful about snacking and caffeine

If we know a little about the lifestyle of Gwyneth Paltrow, we know that the star is rather a fan of very light meals. For a restful night’s sleep each night, she recommends breakfast in the half hour after waking up, avoiding snacking, drinking plenty of water and stopping caffeine after 12 pm. So far, we highly agree.

Avoid technological devices before going to bed

Here again, Gwyneth did not invent anything. Blue light emitted from devices such as phones, computers, and tablets has been shown to have a detrimental effect on our sleep and to inhibit the production of melatonin (sleep hormone). Our advice to us? Instead, open a book, a study has shown that reading favors falling asleep.

Spray a lavender mist on your pillow

Indeed, several studies have shown that lavender could slow down our heart rate, decrease our blood pressure and our stress levels. A study published in 2012 even revealed that people who breathed lavender before falling asleep lived a deeper and more restful sleep. If the star advises spraying mist with lavender on her pillow, it is also possible to deposit a few drops of essential oil of lavender in a pomander.

Massage and meditate

In her book, Gwyneth Paltrow advises to massage the muscular contractions around the skull and feet, and then to finish the ritual with meditation. These techniques are known to promote relaxation but which you can obviously do without if you are not that much interested.
